Meet the Artist – Robert Henry
When did you start drawing?
I started drawing when I was a small child. I saw Star Wars when I was three years old, and there’s not a time since that I don’t remember drawing.
What are your favorite things to draw?
I really enjoy drawing creatures and women. I guess it’s sort of a beauty and the beast thing. Drawing beasts or creatures is fun; it’s cool to explore the darkness. On the flip side, drawing women is drawing the most beautiful things in the world. I know it sounds horribly cliché but, that’s how I see it.
Who are some of your artistic inspirations?
It’s a long list, so I’ll just mention a few. Alphonse Mucha has always inspired me with beauty and flow of his work. Tim Vigil pushes boundaries, and, while I don’t think I’d go where is career goes, I can’t help but respect his path and passion. Not to mention how amazingly detailed his work is. Frank Frazetta is always someone who I admire. Finding that moment of drama where the viewer wonders what happens next, is such a gift that he possessed.
Any projects you’re working on or looking forward to working on?
I’m currently working, with Joe Evans, on Bad Candy, a Halloween-inspired limited series. I’m writing and helping with the art.
