Meet the Artist – Ellis Goodson
When did you start drawing?
It must have been early. In 6th grade, I did an illustration of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi attacking the cobra that went over big.
What are your favorite things to draw?
Creating figures out of my head using everything I’ve learned about that from all the books teaching the talent.
Who are some of your artistic inspirations?
After Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, I was copying MAD magazine art. Junior High efforts that I didn’t realize were being influenced by the intact EC artist stable still working for MAD. That happened to include Frank Frazetta, my main artistic inspiration. I copied a lot of Frazetta.
Any projects you’re working on or looking forward to working on?
Currently working on a strip similar in length to this Okie Comics project for Matthew Price, his 1920s crime-fighting Noir character THE GRAVE. I also have a collection of illustrated, flash short, horror fiction similar to my collaboration with Jeff Provine, 31 Ghost Stories.
What’s a good way for fans to check out your work?
