Meet the artist – Matthew Brendle

brendleWhen did you start drawing?

I was about 5 years old when I started doodling. I come from a very artistic family. My grandfather was a painter, my mom is a seamstress and my older brother is also an artist, so the competition was and is pretty fierce.

What are your favorite things to draw?

I tend to gravitate to drawing portraits. The human face is very intricate and challenging to capture correctly. I also like drawing different kinds of creatures, from real to made up.

Who are some of your artistic inspirations?

My main inspiration for getting into drawing would probably be Bill Watterson. I discovered the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip at a young age, and his use of humor and lovely watercolor-styled illustrations really grabbed me and still hasn’t let go.

Any projects you’re working on or looking forward to working on?

I’m really excited to start working on the next season of comic strips for the Red Six to Golden Corral crew.

What’s a good way for fans to check out your work?

My deviant art page and my business page on Facebook.
