Meet the Artist – Ashley Davis
When did you start drawing?
I realized my love for art at a very young age; creating felt like the most natural thing for me. I remember in elementary, we had a guest artist come to class one day wheeling in one of those clunky overhead projectors, and he taught us how to draw cartoon dinosaurs. From then on I knew I wanted to be an artist. I have many fond memories of stapling papers together to make storybooks and my dad teaching me how to draw stars at the kitchen table.
What are your favorite things to draw?
I love to design characters and think about who they were and what their story would be.
I especially enjoy drawing characters within nature or in a fantasy setting full of supernatural or science fiction.
Who are some of your artistic inspirations?
As an illustrator and comic creator, there are many artists I draw inspiration from. For illustration work, I often look to Matt Rockefeller, Audra Auclair, and Heikala. As far as comics, I admire the storytelling of Yuko Ota, Pascalle Lepas, and Tess Stone.
Any projects you’re working on or looking forward to working on?
I have a couple of ideas for some comics that are still underway, so be sure to key an eye out for them in the future. Since I just recently graduated from the University of Oklahoma, I’ve been currently more focused in taking on commission work at this time.
